my reason for becoming a teacher is mainly because I adore children and I wanted to fire them to reach for their goals I think the AHA moments came when the students and this includes kids and adults as well became bar Bat Mitzvah I came from a much larger synagogue in this was a but smaller one were you you got to know people you weren't just a number that you were an actual person and I enjoyed that that the fact that I could do volunteering and how what's the school and I think they at play the fact that I was able to connect with a small synagogue and do things with them made it much easier to connect with the Jewish community in general you know that if it changed my teaching when I had that feeling of just be yourself in the classroom crossword learn the most from who you are as a person and what you're teaching at the same time I love you but they know then I mean it it is not just towards a lot of them when they mean me even when they are teenage on, you are my favorite Hebrew teacher they probably say it to everyone I have no idea I realized that I had to build a rapport and a strong connection with my students and the dentist and sentences to success I still have connections with students that I've had 20 20 or 25 years ago I've been teaching a long time I've really waiting to teach my son over student mind when she was in sixth grade today her child is at Mundell he's in first grade I saw him today and I'm wishing God please please please let me have this child is like tell him I was your Mother's Day picture day here was this what I thought was the most War sixth-grader never had in my life he became a shadow to a special needs child in our program and just blossomed and he's now getting a masters in special education I thought about it and I realize that I have failed him and then I didn't tell his parents this that I felt that I failed I felt that allowed the school to fail him that he was telling us something and we weren't lesson and so when I walk in the classroom I always think about him and how would he respond to this lesson how did he respond to this approach would you get bored and act out a way to get engaged I have a chance make up for that couple years ago as a sixth grader who was phenomenal off-the-charts too smart for his own good and so we worked on creating a lesson of our own that we actually he actually got to teach in the sixth grade himself spoke about your connection to her son gave and the effect you had on his bar mitzvah lessons I was able to work with him to get him more confident in his reading ability and I could see looking at watching him when he had his bar mitzvah earlier this year how much it had changed and grown from the time I remember working with him as a 4th and 5th grader had a student who came from a difficult background and she was struggling in school kind of pulls me over in the beginning of the school year I had a conversation with her I just said to her you know I love you I want the best for you I want this to work. Happy place let's let's work on his weather in as soon as she felt like I was on her team and it wasn't like we were you know one against the other she completely turned around and we had an excellent year together as a matter of fact I did teach in a regular Ed classroom I'm in 9th grade physical science class that I was assigned a few years ago I felt it all the strategies I used for the special ed students I was able to apply in that classroom hands on I'm practical participation is imperative for learning so I do collect things in my student the name of the artist is God. He is now a 6th grader he started the year with me telling me that he hates Hebrew and every day when all the students were writing their assignments in the planner got used to write it however Gotti was drawing and doodling I looked at his pictures and join us I like this one I created like a smile with hands and the hands would tell him what part of the picture I like is the yearbook Gaudi became one of the strongest students in Hebrew what's willing to speak Hebrew he was a top Daddy was able to write stories for me he is one of the students that would tell me and teach every one of never give up never give up on you students cuz you never Gaudi at the end of the year was able to write for five pages of stores in Hebrew Illustrated them with his pictures this is what I can have his grandmother came at the end of the year she brought it to me and she said this is some guy that I really appreciate the way you taught him the reality is called a lien from the Daisy gives me a foundation incredibly creative and to use my vacuum and students in ways that I never had an opportunity as a sixth grader myself and end of course we get so much support from the Federation that we have these I was phenomenal classroom that is like a blank canvas I get to do with what I want to know that I am part of the strong network of Jewish schools that we have here that is generously funded by the Federation I definitely gained a lot from their resources especially from the Jewish Education Center I've been there many times I have worked in special education for a lot of decades and this is the first time I've ever had recognition to this extend and I it made me feel wonderful to realize that other people recognized my skill and my knowledge I do not to get any sort of Ward I do it cuz I like I love seeing the kids up there and doing they're reading their parts annoying or even if it was just a small part that I had in it that I had an impact that way I can tell you Cleveland and all the date teachers in Cleveland or extremely lucky to have a place like the teacher center it's a place when you can walk in you see the walls and you get energized and you feel like you really want to come back to classroom and bring all these beautiful things and you can already feel yourself using them engaging your own students with that I keep reminding myself about the phrase the door by door I want to pass on my knowledge I love and passion for learning to the next Generations
