I became a teacher because I realized I was good with kids and I feel like I'm not as old as I am because energizing decided I was like I need to find a more positive route where I can see small successes I come from the line of teachers my mom is a teacher my brother is a teacher in South Africa I was a special needs teacher and I always thought be wonderful to have a regular class but be able to use old my message that I flew on a regular class of children so much I heard the people didn't enjoy on Sunday school and so I did not want to repeat that experience my students as a little kid I knew I loved children I started babysitting at 11 years old in my neighborhood is it my all my friends were getting jobs at restaurants department stores but I stuck with babysitting cuz I found it was just easy I work with the kids and make them laugh ultimately picked middle school because those were some of my strongest memories as a student like happy memories of being in the classroom not just I like being with kids if I like being a part of their life and I like being a part of the growth I feel like I'm the luckiest person in the world that I get to see these Monumental steps but then I realized off the day one no one's regular every child is a special needs child every child has the individual needs loving your likes and you going to take the time out to see what each child is meeting at that particular moment they're my commitment from connection to I should have it for my temple goes back from when I first moved Cleveland 30 years ago being in this area there were lots of temples and I was I was Affiliated as a young child with Taylor Road Seneca being back to yabby brought me back to my Jewish roots being not Jewish in this setting when I first got the job I was a little bit nervous about you know the transition by everything but it felt comfortable in like something I always knew and the community and the people were so amazing that I felt comfortable and at home through the loving eyes of a parent they see their child in a certain way. Just help me remember we're talking about the most precious thing in their life is their child it just gave me perspective how to deal with parents and how to connect it to both the parents and student literally like take your heart out and hand it to someone else and say this is my child and it's your heart so I could cry I fell in love with this little guy and it was a wonderful two years and then his sister moved up and she stayed for two years and then I got his brother and here to stay for 3 years I have the youngest and he's the last and it's like I I literally am part of the family at this point so I'm hoping that when he leaves that sell still be part of their family because it's been 10 years of this regular family Monica's boy this year is a boy who started off the year very antisocial very anxious and right at the beginning of the year I asked the boys a question and I saw him mouthing the on and so I called on him to school and kind and I said time what's the answer and he said he didn't raise my hand and I said him and no you didn't but your brain rest your brains had told me the odds of very quietly and then very very quickly he started giving the onzas the brightest boy my best reader academically competence in every area and I even have to tell him to stop talking so much you can just keep it for each day I love you sing it it even though I teach five days do you know it's for the secular school I want to do it on my weekend as well because it gives me a lot of Joy I never get tired of it it brings me a lot of energy and a lot of joy they get to know you as well as you know them because when you're teaching you bring in your experience of one little boy went home and he said to his mother's ghost I want to be a grandmother like me Arlene I'm so honored if we avoid those shine and every boy has two Springs and every 4 has to feel that you are recognizing what's good about do I want to go into my classroom every day and make every child feel good and every child to leave and say I love school and and want to read books and want to learn
