Current JECC Openings



The Jewish Education Center of Cleveland (JECC) is searching for a part-time cataloging and administrative librarian. The JECC’s library, which currently has advanced accreditation from the Association of Jewish Libraries, serves as a pedagogic review center for JECC staff members and Jewish educators in the community. It maintains a collection of books and curricula, totaling 8,000 items. It uses the Weine Classification system for Judaica libraries.


This is a part-time position, approximately 10 hours per month at the librarian’s convenience, though it may grow in hours and responsibilities if both the librarian and JECC mutually agree. This is a relatively quiet curriculum/educationally-focused library which at the moment needs basic attention.

The JECC’s position includes, but is not limited to the following responsibilities:

  • Handle the administrative aspects of the JECC library:
    • Catalog new materials into the online catalog (Library World)
    • Re-shelve materials
    • Oversee circulation
    • Follow-up and, if necessary, bill for materials not returned to the library in a timely manner
    • Develop seasonal displays for the library and in-house meetings
    • Maintain usage reports
  • Acquire materials, some as recommended by staff and others self-selected
    • Hebrew language and Judaic educational materials
    • General pedagogical materials
    • Juvenile literature of Jewish and Hebrew content
    • Journals used by the JECC staff

Educational requirements:

An MLS degree is preferred, but not required. However, coursework in cataloguing is expected. The JECC has materials to assist a new librarian learn the Weine classification system. Also preferred is background on Jewish religion/culture and/or general education. Hebrew knowledge is preferred, but not necessary. Salary is paid hourly, based on background and experience.
