my undergrad is in communication and I have a double minor in public relations and creative writing and at the time I thought like that it would combine all if I cash it so I can be creative and having fun and after a couple years I realized I didn't feel like I was making the different faces of my English teacher started popping into my head and I realized that I had said from a young age if I couldn't be a writer and I couldn't you know do whatever else crazy pie-in-the-sky dream I would be happy being a teacher and making the same kind of difference in someone's life the way that my teachers had for me something that's really special about working in Jewish Education and specifically at Schecter is that I get to loop with these kids from the time they're in sixth grade through the time that there is so I teach them for three years and a person like that a lot of Laura very very sick of me what the benefit of that is that I get to know them so well and make such a connection that years later they come back they come back during finals week I may just sit in my room because they have free time and they want to catch up in terms of the jec the Jewish Education Center I would be so lost without the guidance it's so nice that there is a resource that you can go to who is responsive and rooting for you and your not Mister number I was not expecting this at all because people who I know who have been role models and mentors in my profession and in my life had received similar to this before and speak in sidered even we on the same playing field as as these people as he is amazing pedal agitators who I had always aspired to be at such an early stage in my career is show insane to me I can't even I don't even know how to express the gratitude that I have towards the administration at for a Schecter but pretty Lucky Gal I always enjoyed just working with kids and so the by time I was in high school I think I do the direction I wanted to take I never changed my major and I never look back I thought going to be my lifelong career when I did start teaching at Beth Israel I feel proud that I'm helping to nurture by students there with their Jewish identity but one thing that was really exciting that we started was an overseas connection with students in Russia that we connected with kaliningrad Russia will go but we were sometimes just talk hi my name is Lily I'm in 7th grade we would celebrate the holidays wonderful to share to wish fought with you being able to take a j e c c class specially on the West Side that's been very wonderful and helpful and also with Judy Schiller I know I have gone to all of the retreat that she's helped a plan with the support of the j e c c b s bank really that's one that I've had contact with in the Jewish Community everything from former colleagues to all of the rabbis I've worked with all of these people that Jamie CC they've just been very helpful they've had a great guidance in my life and I'm very proud that I've been able to have a small part in helping to nurture my student help them nurture themselves to have a more of a Jewish identity in Cleveland I grew up in a family full of love and passion for Education my grandfather was one of the founders of the Hebrew Academy my parents both taught their my mother was my teacher in beneath grade and I just learned so much from her also I am so proud to be an educator in the Hebrew Academy of Cleveland and in general in the Cleveland Community I think we are part of an amazing team I work under amazing administrators I work with Fantastico teachers support staff in general my goal as a teacher is to create heat and excitement for learning students should really like want to be learning on their own so I do this by trying to focus on individual person learning at their own pace and then feeling a drive to to learn more and compete against themselves and they just want to learn more the bell rings and they're like I learnt a lot from every everyone I work with anytime I talk to other teachers I get such amazing inside mrs. goldbaum has been incredible she is an incredible credible incredible administrator helping me as a teacher and also helping my children in the school just a couple weeks ago in eighth grade or came over to me and read message from when I was in fourth grade I asked you a question and you said I should come back to you when I'm 15 and 15 can you tell me the answer I feel extremely fortunate to be working as an educator at a Jewish Day School in this community and a Cleveland Community the amount of resources the amount support the amount of personal encouragement that I have received and seeing has allowed me to grow tremendously as an educator it's also allowed me to put into place implement Vision that I've had for our school I feel extremely grateful to the JC I feel extremely grateful to the Federation I am extremely grateful to the L at my school what we work really hard at that man do is make school project based and making School a place where creativity is very important. The poor part of what drives me as an educator there always challenges there are always at term limits and barriers and wasted thing think about how things are going to fall apart it's much harder to think about how can we come together as we make the most of what we have and what each other up and I'm very fortunate I'm in this community with the colleagues at my school with the colleagues outside of the school from the JC I feel grateful for this award I feel grateful for the recognition and the effort the dedication and commitment that this community has to include it including all students in our schools and our Jewish people that Mandel is a beautiful thing and it's it's very important I started at Solon Jewish preschool which was the best decision I ever cuz it's a I love teaching in the Jewish wedding I love to get a soldier's preschool because it's like everyone there is there great all the teachers are phenomenal and making an impact on the kids Jewish well I did a student last year she was really quiet and shy and was around Passover we doing all the songs we have the kids in pre-k make their own Madonna's and she she she I didn't know she really knew the songs because we would take out the time between everything and then I got an email really kind email from her parents later and said you know what at our seder this year she led the wholesaler she was so excited guitar songs that we didn't even know that many feel good I want to instill a feeling of wow this is the greatest thing ever learning and and learning new things and discovering new things I am beyond thankful Beyond I'm shocked and but so appreciative and happy that I was recognized by the parents because my parents are awesome they're always awesome this amazingly awesome but they're always great I know that Michael is really not so much getting ready for kindergarten with their ABCs and numbers which they will be ready but is to make them really good people like teaching a theory and kindness and be a good friend and to be a good family member I just been like Morley strong people I knew I want to do something with landscape design and I thought you wanted to go sort of like a secular contacts to write and just worked with secular schools for this or do I want to go in a more narrow but deeper Jewish path so I took that and and dive into this piece of project I was looking at relationship to landscape sort of like as metaphors landscape is Torah and thinking about landscape design and krikilan and pedagogy sort of with that metaphor in mind for outdoor Jewish learning experience for landscape design I was only thinking about how do we create the environment in which learning and sort of meaning-making can happen that laid the seeds for mitsui Collective and so very much intended and so mitsui is it's an Aramaic and it means the activation of potential and so mitsui assertive I think of it as sort of the Catalyst that kind of finds a potential energy right and bring that together and catalyzes that for change in when I think about experience education and especially experiential education or learning there's a couple things that I think about one is pretty simple it's a phrase that we can from Torah not a 7 ish, which more or less to we will do and then we will learn a good facilitator of experiential learning is also really thinking about how do we cultivate and how do we treat the space in which the experience can happen in a way that's learning full and meaningful and support animal really you know what Bush people's Comfort zones just enough
