I was thinking about when I felt inspired to become a teacher and I can trace it back to maybe third or fourth grade I really got it in my head then that I wanted to do this I really loved yeah I'm fighting my own content and Mendel not only allows me to do that but encourages me to do that I have kids to come back when they're well into high school or college and they visit and they remembered you realize you remember that the impact that you I wrote individual letters to all of my students that practice was something I started as a student teacher and wanted the kids to remember how I felt about them and that I believed in them I wanted each letter to be personalized and written teaspoon face tan like their best traits and you know some of the things that I really liked loved and admired and then we have a group of leaders who really are innovators and they go out into the community and Beyond and they sign new ideas no cutting-edge practices and education and they bring them back to mandolin they really want us to kind of push them left and right ways I really want to be a part of that and you know just help individuals learn as much as they can and problem solved when it's not working for them to have that kind of you know a cremation I support it is what keeps us doing what we the support from from parents you know giving you feedback every year about you know the experience with their child is having and it's from your colleagues as well like it's it's amazing and I'm so grateful every kid deserves the opportunity to have a quality education that respect them as a as an individual why you always trying to reflect on making sure that I am honoring the humanity of my students and making sure that I'm honoring who my students are spp my Jewish values have influenced my teaching in that way when my kids were babies I became really really invested in making sure that they have a good Jewish Legend no experience and so I wanted to become more involved with Jewish Education I have been so very fortunate to have amazing colleagues and mentors in both Jewish Education and secular he said the opportunity to watch my colleagues Peach is incredible professional development for me I think it is so cool when my students that I had as like little kids to come that's just a really wonderful like development to watch that you have to know that they found value and something that we did in the classroom and not enough that they then choose to continue Jewish Education as team I've always wanted to a teacher I can't remember a time when I didn't when I was in school a lot of teachers in math and science were males there weren't as many females and I thought if I could just Inspire some more teach me how to be a math or science teacher that would be wonderful the door has opened to a whole new community that I didn't know and they're the most amazing people most loving giving truly we have so much in common I wish the rest of the world could see this little microcosm that we've built I love math it's such a passion I want my students to love math too even if it's not their favorite subject because it is in their everyday life they will use it forever it doesn't go away it's an everything I received a letter from one of my students who is now a graduate that touched my heart in ways that I will never forget when I started here in my freshman year I was only at a fourth grade math level and to be honest I never thought I could ever be good at math I was always scared to try anything for fear that my math was wrong when I started your class I felt at home you were always so gentle and patient never gave up on me you saw the potential that I called and you made it coming no longer see as an impossible hurdle for you I am eternally grateful I can't wait to come back and visit you I get up every day and come to work because I love teaching I learned from my students every day I learned from my colleagues by see the wonderful people around me absolutely love it I'm surrounded by happiness with these little children and it's a joy my goal teaching is to have a fun environment where the children want to learn I absolutely love my colleagues there was careful it's one of the reasons that I still teach I'm going to tear up it's nice to see that your lifetime has been recognized what you do what you contribute has been recognized I feel that every single teacher at our school deserves it everybody gives and gives and gives everybody deserves an award my big love was going to Hebrew school so I continue to 1973 to come to Cleveland and join a woman's of Valor class at the College of Jewish studies it's just natural to instill my love to down Rabbi Oppenheimer started a the name is for program and I taught the children for 14 months for their b'nai Mitzvah and they were successful when they stood by our Beamer it was like they were just glowing and many have continued on to careers they've been rabbis and Cancers and Jewish Educators also coming back with their families and I am now teaching their children I was overwhelmed with gratitude that I was nominated for this special scholarship award it felt like I really am touching the hearts of my students and the families I have to thank my family for sharing their mother every Sunday morning and every afternoon because they were all together my support system oh my gosh if it is there what is one thing that I could have my students walk away with from anything that I've ever been able to teach them I would say it would be confidence I think that's the key to everything get louder confidence really can leave them to their own success the idea of experiential education and and creative programming brings up a lot of excitement I was really fortunate as a child I had very creative teachers that really tapped into the sort of all of our individual skill and I find that Schechter has those same teachers I am really fortunate I have incredible incredible colleagues that really look at each child as a whole person a whole individual and the fact that I can support those teachers by adding some maybe a new twist to their curriculum is just so wonderful for me to be able to do that there are really no words to describe the support that exists in this community and how easy it is to live jewishly here to have a Jewish Education Center and a Jewish Federation that is thriving the way that we have here not every Community has that not every Community is willing to support a little theater program that lets Jewish kids come and get up on stage and act with like-minded families we are very lucky I don't take that for granted for one second
