Resident Educator

Resident Educator Licenses

  • Issued to educators who have completed teacher preparation programs at an Ohio college or university.
  • Issued to out of state license holders with less than three [3] years of teaching experience. Verification of out of state license and teaching experience are submitted as part of the application process.
  • Effective for four [4] years with each year having specific requirements mandated by ODE.
  • The Resident Educator Summative Assessment (RESA) is usually taken in Year 3 of the license. Educators must pass RESA in order to advance to a 5-year professional license.
  • License holders must be mentored by a mentor who has completed Ohio Department of Education (ODE) training.
  • Program is administered by the JEC Program Coordinator.
